Mid Van Duzen River Ranch Road Sediment Reduction Program

Humboldt County Resource Conservation District, Humboldt County

Project Abstract

The Mid Van Duzen River Ranch Road Sediment Reduction Program consists of completing on-the-ground treatments on ranch roads to reduce sediment delivery to watercourses.

Project Goals

  1. The goals of this project are to reduce the sediment delivery contribution from roads within the Mid Domain of the Van Duzen River Watershed. Through implementation of the sediment source treatments for the sites covered by this project, as much as 20,000 tons of sediment savings will be attained.
  2. The projects support all six of the primary integrated management objectives for the North Coast IRWMP.
  3. This project proposal represents another phase of implementation by the Yager/Van Duzen Environmental Stewards (YES) of the “Summary Report for the Watershed Assessment and Erosion Planning Project for the Middle Van Duzen River” (PWA 2003).  This project will continue implementation of treatment for sites and it is anticipated that an additional 40 sites will be addressed through this proposal.
  4. To increase the number of landowner members willing to use grant funds for similar projects.
